Soprano singer Sonja Lutz from Graz was born in 1972. She studied singing under Eva Klietmann-Bartfai and Martin Klietmann at the Vienna respectively Graz University of Art. She was awarded the degree of master with distinction and attended masterclasses by Adolf Dallapozza and Gottfried Hornik. She received an advanced vocal education from Gitta Gänsel-Gabriel (registered speech therapist and singer). In her thesis, she researched the artistic biography of star baritone Thomas Hampson and his thoughts about vocal pedagogy.

Her stage and concert repertoire comprises parts such as Pamina/Papagena/second lady (“Die Zauberflöte” W. A. Mozart), Kurfürstin Marie (“Der Vogelhändler” C. Zeller), Ottilie (“Im weißen Rößl” R. Benatzky), Annamirl (“Der fidele Bauer “ L. Fall), Miss Mabel Gibson (“Die Zirkusprinzessin” E. Kálmán), Sylva (“Die Csárdásfürstin” E. Kálmán), Sonja (“Der Zarewitsch” F. Lehár), J. Haydn “Die Schöpfung”, J. Brahms “Ein deutsches Requiem”, G. F. Händel “Messiah”, G. B. Pergolesi “Stabat Mater”, J. S. Bach “Magnificat”, M. A. Charpentier “Te Deum “, F. Mendelssohn Bartholdy “Elias” / Knabe, F. Schubert “Magnificat” as well as a broad repertoire of mass compositions by Joseph Haydn, Michael Haydn, W. A. Mozart, J. J. Fux, H. I. F. Biber, Franz Schubert and Jehan Alain.

She worked with conductors and singers such as Kurt Streit, Alexander Kaimbacher, Klemens Sander, Alexander Puhrer, Johannes Chum, Martin Fournier, Gernot Heinrich, Elfriede Höbarth, Gert Meditz, Markus Landerer, Nikolas Radulescu, Josef M. Döller, Ernst Wedam, Peter Planyavsky, the Philharmonic Academy Graz and Budapestīs Johann Strauß Orchestra.

As a soloist, the soprano singer performed in the Stephaniensaal in Graz, in the Minoriten Cultural centre / Graz, in St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, in the Dom zu Graz, at the Robert-Stolz festival in Wroclaw/Poland, in the city theatre in Langenthal/Switzerland in the Canton of Bern, in Germany and in the Opera of Graz (Concert series “Counterpoints”/Contemporary Literature for Soprano and Tuba).

Sonja Lutz has been working as a lecturer in voice at the Joseph Haydn Conservatory of the Province of Burgenland in Eisenstadt since the academic year 2006, and since the academic year 2009 as a senior lecturer at the Institute 12 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
